DHSS is leveraging federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding to build or expand critical agency facilities that meet public health needs or serve vulnerable Delawareans.

Division of Public Health Laboratory (DPHL)

  • To increase capacity for routine and outbreak testing, the State is leveraging $35 million for this critical expansion.
  • When finished in the summer of 2023, the lab will almost double in space.

Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill (DHCI)

  • To better care for some of the most vulnerable people in our state, $50 million will be used to build a skilled nursing facility in Smyrna.
  • DHCI, which originally opened in 1932, cares for more than 100 residents today.
  • The new facility is expected to open before 2026.
