Volunteer Advocate Program
The Delaware Long-Term Care Ombudsman (LTCO) Volunteer Program provides opportunities for Delaware citizens to make a difference in the lives of residents living in long-term care settings. Volunteers are an essential component to the Ombudsman program and under the supervision of staff, our Volunteer Ombudsman advocate for long-term care residents, conduct facility visits and respond to resident complaints.
What Does a Volunteer Ombudsman Do?
- Advocate for quality care
- Regularly visit long-term care settings
- Act as a voice for residents while resolving complaints
- Support resident’s rights, privacy, and confidentiality
Who Can Volunteer?
Volunteers must be Delaware residents, 18 years or older, have available transportation, complete all required trainings, and have a genuine interest in making a difference in the lives of residents. Qualifications
- Must pass a criminal background check and fingerprinting
- Must not have been employed by a long-term care setting within the past year
Ineligibility
Potential volunteers may be ineligible to participate in the LTCO Volunteer Program if any of the following apply:
- Volunteer or immediate family have financial interest in or compensation from a long-term care setting
- Volunteer or immediate family are currently or have been employed in a long-term care setting within the past year
