MEDIA BRIEFING ADVISORY

WHAT: Press briefing and school rally for Adopt-A-Student program at Maple Lane Elementary School in Claymont. As one school year ends, it’s time to think about the next one and the needs of children from families who are economically challenged. Adopt-A-Student – part of the Adopt-A-Family program – provides gift cards for school clothing, backpacks and school supplies to help Delaware students get ready for the school year. DHSS Secretary Rita Landgraf and Brandywine Superintendent Dr. Mark A. Holodick will explain the purpose of Adopt-A-Student and how the community can participate in helping children. The event will be held in Maple Lane Elementary School’s gym/auditorium in front of 270 students in third, fourth and fifth grades. During a typical year, the umbrella Adopt-A-Family program, with assistance from the Human Services Councils of New Castle County and Kent/Sussex Counties, provides urgently needed assistance to more than 4,500 Delaware families totaling more than 15,000 individuals. Most of the beneficiaries are single-parent households, children and senior citizens.
