Bureau of Health Promotion
The Bureau of Health Promotion includes programs which promote healthy lifestyle habits — such as nutrition and physical activity—and prevent use of tobacco products. Promoting healthy behaviors is the most effective way to prevent the leading causes of premature death, illness and disability in Delaware.
Smoking
and obesity are the two leading, underlying causes of death in the state and nation; and they are major risk factors for heart disease,
several types of cancer, lung diseases, and type 2 diabetes.
Because of the cross-cutting nature of these programs, the Bureau of Health Promotion works closely with programs in the Bureau of Chronic Disease Prevention and Control, the Office of Health Education, and other bureaus and programs in the Division. It’s programs include:
- Physical Activity Nutrition and Obesity Prevention Program
- Tobacco Prevention and Control Program
- Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Supplemental Nutrition Program
