Vaccines are among the 20th century’s most successful and cost-effective public health tools for preventing disease and death. Thanks to immunizations, diseases like polio that were once common, are now only distant memories for most Americans. Today there are few visible reminders of the suffering, injuries, and deaths caused by diseases that are now prevented with vaccines. At present, there are vaccines available to protect children and adults against at least fifteen (15) serious infections.

Immunize – Every Size
Immunizations are for people of all ages. From newborns to senior citizens, timely immunizations are one of the most important ways for people to protect themselves and others from serious diseases. Adults, adolescents, children, and infants need to stay up-to-date with the vaccinations that are recommended for their age.
The Division of Public Health Immunization Program’s goal is to prevent vaccine-preventable diseases by making sure children and adults receive the vaccines they need. The program assures:
- All citizens of Delaware have access to vaccines;
- Healthcare providers are aware of immunization standards of practice;
- The latest recommendations on vaccines are available to providers; and
- Providers and the public have access to up-to-date answers to vaccine questions
Mission Statement
The mission of the Delaware Immunization Program is to prevent and control the transmission of vaccine-preventable diseases through the support and implementation of interventions aimed at increasing immunization rates.
