If you’re living with a disability or growing older and find it harder to manage daily tasks, help is available. The Division of Services for Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities (DSAAPD) offers a range of in-home supports so you can continue living safely and comfortably in your own home.
These services are designed with one goal in mind: to help you maintain your independence, your dignity, and your routine—on your terms.
Personal Care Services
If you need extra support because of age, illness, or disability, personal care services can help with:
- Bathing, dressing, and personal hygiene
- Light housekeeping and laundry
- Meal preparation and grocery shopping
- Getting to appointments or errands
This support is available to Delaware residents who are:
- Age 60 or older, or
- Age 18+ with a physical disability
Attendant Services (Self-Directed)
Want more control over your care? The Attendant Services Program lets you choose and manage your own in-home caregiver. This self-directed model puts you in charge of who supports you and how.
An attendant can help with:
- Getting dressed, bathed, or moving around
- Preparing meals and doing household tasks
- Communicating or getting to work
- Other activities that support your daily life
To qualify, you must be 18 or older, have a disability, and meet financial and functional eligibility.
Assistive Devices
Sometimes a tool or device can make all the difference. We help people with disabilities get the equipment they need to do more on their own—at home, at work, or in the community.
Examples include:
- Shower seats or handheld showerheads
- Wheelchairs, walkers, or canes
- Large-grip utensils or reachers
- Adaptive technology like screen readers or modified keyboards
Funding is limited and only available when no other payment options exist. Devices must promote independence or communication. Some purchase and lifetime limits apply.
Personal Emergency Response System
If you live alone or are alone much of the day, a Personal Emergency Response System (PERS) gives you an easy way to call for help in an emergency.
Just press the button you wear around your neck or wrist, and you’re instantly connected to a response center or a designated contact who can get you the help you need.
This service is available to older adults or adults with physical disabilities who are at higher risk and live alone.
