Established in 1921 as a home for individuals with disabilities, The Stockley Center is the flagship of the 750-acre multipurpose Stockley Campus operated by the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS).
Today, the Stockley Center includes the 50-bed Medicaid-certified Mary Ann Coverdale (MAC) Center, offering both intermediate and skilled nursing care for individuals requiring a variety of complex supports and medical needs, as well as residential cottages. In addition to habilitative training, health care and family services for individuals with developmental disabilities, the campus’ 23 buildings also house a range of DHSS services through the Division of Developmental Disabilities Services (DDDS), the Division of Services for Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities (DSAAPD), the Division of Public Health (DPH) and the Division for the Visually Impaired (DVI). A number of State services are also available on the campus through the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC), the Department of Labor (DOL) and the Office of Forensic Science and Medical Examiner’s Office. The property includes a nature preserve with walking trails, a solar panel field, Veterans Cemetery and two schools. In early 2027, the campus will become the new home of Delaware State Police Troop 4.
A feasibility study is currently underway to explore opportunities to continue to provide services for individuals with disabilities while investing in community-based resources to revitalize the campus for State, community and those who live there through health, learning and recreation.
