    Orientation and Mobility Support

When vision loss affects how you move through the world, it can feel overwhelming. But you don’t have to figure it out alone. DVI’s Orientation and Mobility Program helps people of all ages build the skills and confidence to safely life independently at home, travel, go to school, work and join community events. Whether navigating your own kitchen, or crossing a busy street, our certified specialists will help you feel more confident and in control of your surroundings.

DVI Orientation and Mobility Specialists are certified by the Academy of Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals.

    What You’ll Learn

Every person’s goals and environment are different, so our services are fully tailored to your needs. Your O&M specialist will work with you on practical, real-world skills like:

    • Using a long white cane effectively
    • Understanding and using your other senses to detect environmental cues
    • Learning spatial awareness to move through indoor and outdoor spaces
    • Crossing streets safely with or without traffic signals
    • Using public or specialized transportation confidently
    • Finding your way to important places like your workplace, school, doctor’s office, or grocery store

Training can happen wherever you need support—inside your home, around your neighborhood, at your workplace, or along routes you travel often.
