    Crisis Support Vehicle

Delaware’s Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health (DSAMH) partners with crisis intervention services throughout the state including community mental health centers, recovery response centers, hospital emergency rooms and police departments to prevent unnecessary or inappropriate hospitalizations of adults experiencing severe symptoms of a mental illness or substance-related problem. These individuals may be dealing with personal, family or marital problems including depression, major life changes, such as loss of a job or an important relationship, anxiety, feelings of hopelessness, thoughts of suicide, delusions, paranoia and substance abuse.

If you are having a psychiatric or substance abuse crisis and need assistance, please contact Mobile Crisis Intervention Services:

    Northern Delaware Hotline, call: 1-800-652-2929
    Southern Delaware Hotline, call: 1-800-345-6785

These important community-based partnerships allow our team to better understand a person’s living conditions, support systems and current level of functioning and connect them to the right treatment and support services. Our ultimate goal is to keep those who can safely be treated by community programs out of the hospital, or prison, when possible.

Our crisis staff work with every police department throughout the state, providing training in police academies and individualized roll call trainings. We also assist in the evaluation of those picked up on criminal charges who may require mental health evaluations and who may be appropriate for the State’s Mental Health Court Program.
