DECISION TREE TO GUIDE EVALUATION OF PATIENTS WITH SUSPECTED EBOLA VIRUS DISEASE

Background

On August 5, 2014, the Division of Public Health forwarded a Health Alert from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

titled “Guidelines for Evaluation of US Patients Suspected of Having Ebola Virus.”  The CDC has since provided a

decision tree to guide health care personnel regarding when to test an individual for Ebola Virus disease.

To date, the only cases of suspected or confirmed Ebola in the United States are the American aid workers who contracted the

disease in Africa and were recently released from an Atlanta hospital.
