
One of every five workplace fatalities is a construction worker. (OSHA)
Construction is a sign of progress and is a vital part of our society. The many areas of the construction industry, and the many workers that it employs, means there are a large number of potential hazards to be mindful of.
Hazards in the construction industry can include:
- Working in dusty environments
- Working in areas of environmental (soil and water) contamination
- Working with paints, finishes and solvents
- Working with and around heavy equipment and machinery
- Working at heights and in confined spaces
Education:
- Provide training that helps employees avoid accidents and injuries.
- Prepare Healthy and Safety Plans that outline all procedures on the job site.
Awareness:
- Tailgate safety meetings take a few minutes each day, but gives you an oppurtunity to bring issues to the crews attention. And gives them the oppurtunity to point out issues to you, before they become a problem.
- Encourage workers to be aware and report unsafe conditions and actions.
