Compare Health Care Cost and Quality Based on Delaware Medical and Pharmacy Claims
Delaware’s CostAware website helps Delawareans understand how their health care dollars are spent by comparing the variation of average costs for different episodes of care and medical services based on actual medical claims in Delaware. Each year, the Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) and the Delaware Health Care Commission work with the Delaware Health Information Network (DHIN) to analyze health care cost and quality based on claims submitted by hospitals and accountable care organizations. The CostAware website shares health care information from Delaware’s Health Care Claims Database.
The most recent CostAware release adds data for calendar year 2023 for all payer types (commercial insurance, Medicaid, Medicare), an enhanced report comparing costs for brand and generic prescription drugs by drug class and payer type, and a redesigned inpatient services report that compares average costs for childbirth and cardiac procedures.
