The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infant and Children, better known as WIC, is a federal nutrition program that helps pregnant women, new mothers and young children eat well, learn about nutrition and stay healthy.

Do You Qualify for WIC?
To be eligible for WIC, you must:
- Be a Delaware resident
- Have a nutritional risk
- Meet income guidelines
AND be a:
- Pregnant woman (through pregnancy and up to 6 weeks after birth or after pregnancy ends) or
- Breastfeeding woman (up to the infant’s 1st birthday) or
- Postpartum woman who is not breastfeeding (up to 6 months after the birth of an infant or after pregnancy ends) or
- Child or infant less than 5 years old.
Parent(s), step-parent(s), guardian(s), or foster parent(s) may apply for their children who qualify. You do not need to be married to apply. You do not need to be a US citizen to receive WIC.

To qualify for WIC, you must meet income guidelines based on your family size.

To determine your family size:
- Count all the members of your household, related or non-related.
- A pregnant woman counts as two family members.
- In the case of a known multiple birth pregnancy, count each fetus as one family member.
To determine your income:
- Add up the gross income of all family members included in determining your family size.
- Some military personnel receive allowances that do not count in determining income.
To apply for WIC
- Call for an appointment with a member of our WIC team to determine if you are eligible.
- In New Castle County, call the Hudson State Service Center at 302-283-7540
- In Kent or Sussex Counties, call the Milford State Service Center at 302-424-7220
- Bring the following to your WIC certification appointment:
- Proof of Income
- Income documents for everybody in your family who works or has a source of income. For example:
- A paycheck stub(s),
- A recent tax return, or
- A letter from your employer.
You may be automatically income eligible if you or certain family members participate in the following programs: Medicaid, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), General Assistance, or Child Care.
- Proof of Identity and Address
- Bring documentation such as a driver’s license or
- Other photo ID with utility bill, rent receipt, or business letter addressed to you.
- Child or Proof of Pregnancy
- The baby or child(ren) less than 5 years old or
- A slip from your doctor saying you are pregnant.

- Schedule or change your appointment
- Make an appointment after your baby is born
- Change your baby’s formula
- Ask a nutrition question
- Ask a question about the program
- Get information about or help with breastfeeding
- Report lost or stolen vouchers

WIC-authorized foods
The WIC authorized food list includes infant formula, infant cereal, baby food and breakfast cereals, milk, yogurt, cheese, eggs, whole grains, fruits and vegetables, dried beans/peas, peanut butter, canned fish, and juice. Please see the links belw for a printable list of approved foods.
WIC-approved formulas
When standard formula is prescribed for infants, WIC will provide only the following contract infant formulas:
- Similac Advance Early Shield
- Similac Soy Isomil (Effective January, 29, 2019 )
WIC will not provide non-contract formulas that are equivalent to contract formulas.
Special exempt formulas and medical foods
- WIC will provide special exempt formulas and medical foods to eligible infants, children and women when there are documented special medical conditions.
- Requests for special formulas or medical foods will be filled for a maximum of six months.
